Project Overview

A period property brought firmly into the present

This tired South London period property needed work from top to bottom. The original lath and plaster had blown throughout the walls and ceilings, so all of it came out. New plasterboard, full replaster, and matching period style cornice throughout. On top of that: worn carpets, dated finishes, ceiling staining, and an old kitchen and bathroom.

J&H Spaces took it back to the bones and brought it forward into a bright, modern home. The kitchen was relocated from a separate room into a new open plan living space with white cabinetry, integrated appliances and light wood flooring.

  • Full internal strip out and replaster throughout
  • New kitchen with integrated appliances
  • Open plan kitchen/living area created
  • Light wood flooring and new grey carpeting
  • Separate toilet & bathroom knocked through into one
  • Chimney breast removed to create larger bedroom
  • Full bathroom refurbishment with separate bath & shower

The Transformation

From tired interior to calm, practical, light filled home

Because of the property's age, all of the original lath and plaster had blown across the walls and ceilings. We removed every bit of it, installed new plasterboard, and fully replastered the entire property. The original cornice had to be replaced, but we sourced matching period style cornice to preserve the character of the rooms.

The kitchen was relocated from its original separate room into a new open plan living area with clean white cabinetry, integrated appliances and light wood flooring. Each bedroom was refreshed with neutral walls and new grey carpeting.

The original layout had a small separate toilet and bathroom. We knocked them through into one generous bathroom with full height tiling, a freestanding bath and a separate walk in shower. It was a much better use of the space. A chimney breast in the original kitchen was also taken out to open up a larger bedroom.

The result is a period home brought firmly into the present. Practical, well finished, and ready to live in, with its original character respected throughout.
